Frequently asked questions
Got a question? We hope you will find the answer here.
What is the Guardian Bookshop?
The Guardian Bookshop is an online and phone-order book service that makes around 200,000 of the UK’s top selling titles available to its customers. The Bookshop works closely with publishers to source handpicked offers and promotions that reflect the books we know our readers love, as well as highlighting some lesser-known gems that might be tricky to discover elsewhere.
Why should I shop at the Guardian Bookshop?
In addition to offering at least 15% off RRP on the vast majority of books (with much greater discounts on some titles), our aim is to help guide our customers towards the very best books from the wealth of reading material that’s out there, taking our lead from the Guardian and Observer’s much-loved and industry-leading books coverage. Not only that, but shopping at the Guardian Bookshop contributes to supporting and financing independent journalism. Find out more on the About Us page.
What delivery options do you offer?
We offer free Royal Mail second-class delivery on all online orders over £10 (UK delivery only). There’s charge of £1.99 for delivering orders under £10. For an additional cost you can choose to have your order sent first-class or via a trackable courier service. We also ship all around the world. Take a look at our Delivery page for more details.
Can you deliver internationally?
We certainly can, though there is an extra cost for delivery outside the UK. For full information, please see our Delivery page.
Can I order over the phone?
Yes, just give us a call on 0330 333 6846. Lines are open 9am - 5.30pm Monday-Saturday (GMT time zone). The phone lines are closed on Sundays and public holidays. Please note that free UK delivery does not apply to phone orders.
Is there an actual bookshop I can visit?
Sadly not. While everyone in the Bookshop team spends an almost unhealthy amount of time browsing in bricks-and-mortar bookshops, we don’t have one of our own!
How do I contact the Guardian Bookshop?
We love to hear from you and there’s lots of different ways to get in touch, including phone, email and post. There are full details on the Contact Us page.
My book hasn't arrived or is damaged. What should I do?
We aim to deliver all in-stock books within seven days and do our best to ensure they arrive in pristine condition. But we’re not perfect, so please accept our sincere apologies if there’s a delay to your order or if your book arrives damaged. For an update on your order or to tell us about a damaged book, please contact us on email@example.com or 0330 333 6846. We will replace or refund damaged or faulty books according to your wishes and issue you with a freepost address so you can return the book to us at no cost to yourself.
I would like to return my book and receive a refund. How do I do this?
If you change your mind about a book you order from us, then you have 14 days from the date of receipt to return the book and request a refund. The packing slip that comes with your book will have all the info you need to return a book.
Do you sell ebooks?
Not at the moment.
I’m an author and I’d like my book to be listed with the Guardian Bookshop. How can I make this happen?
Your best bet is to ask your publisher to get in touch with the buying team at Bertrams, one of the UK’s biggest books wholesalers. We work with them to fulfil all orders placed with the Guardian Bookshop.
I’m an author and I’d like my book to be reviewed in the Guardian or Observer. How can I make this happen?
The Guardian Bookshop works closely with our friends in the editorial section, but we don’t have any say in what they choose to review. Queries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and review copies to Guardian Books Editorial, Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9GU
I’ve written a book that I’d like the Guardian to publish. Who should I contact?
A good first port of call is our Guardian Books page, where you can find out more about the types of books we publish and how to submit your ideas to our editors. If you still have queries, then drop us a line on email@example.com.
