A love letter to Paris written in iPhone notes and in the troubling intimacy of public transport post-Charlie Hebdo attacks, Lauren Elkin's diary of a year on a Parisian bus pays homage to Georges Perec and Annie Ernaux. In this chronicle of the ordinary makings of a city and its people, the author's own body is a threatened vessel; that of the author as a woman as an author as a pregnant woman on the bus.

Having thoroughly enjoyed "La Flaneuse", I jumped at this book without stopping to think. At first I felt a bit disappointed, as it seemed to be very literally "notes", or random scribblings, such as I could do myself on a bus anywhere! And why didn't she include a map?! However, she does then take you on a journey which explores widely divergent themes, including societal and personal trauma, by way of this apparently superficial approach. I was surprised, challenged, and always engaged. A powerful little package.
