About the author

Ian Mayes was the Guardian’s first readers’ editor and during his decade in the role became president of the international Organization of News Ombudsmen. The wry humour which marked many of his Guardian corrections gained him a cult following; the serious side of the role had a wide-ranging influence at home and abroad.
